It looks like newsgator had a huge problem last night where their SQL Server machine failed completely on them. I feel their pain. I know how it is when something like this happens.
Personally I think SQL Server is one of the best databases out there but it always seems that when the log file gets to big all bets are off. There has to better tools in place so that if a rogue query happens, it does not fill the entire log file up!

This has always been my fear of creating a web application that becomes so popular that when somethings fails like this, it can bring your business to its knees. If you don’t plan for redundancy or scalability, your great product could be gone in hours!
It’s not just SQL Server that has had these problems. I remember several stories of Oracle hitting the fan when Star Wars Galaxies first launched. It could not handle the amount of transactions and it took a few days for them to get this corrected.
