Today I took the Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) test for Designing a Portal Solution with Microsoft Sharepoint Products and Technologies and passed it! I was a bit worried because I only studied a couple of hours this morning before heading over to the local college to take it.
I actually did quiet well! I passed with a score of 900 out of 1000! The funny thing is I knew the 5 questions that I got wrong were. When I was answering the question I kepting asking myself if this was the answer that Microsoft wanted to hear or was it the answer that felt was right based on deploying a couple Sharepoint sites over the years. As you guess, I made the wrong choice. Next time I need to remember to give the Microsoft answer, even if I feel its wrong!
When you only miss five or six questions you really want to take the test over again and get them all right!!
Oh well! At least this is off my plate as one of my goals to complete this spring!

Congrats! Why are you studying for MS Certs. I thought you thought it was a waste of time?
For a personal professional level, I see no value in it. However, my business we need it. The company I own is going for Microsoft Partnership and soon a Gold Partnership. This should help my company. A couple of times MCS could not give us a gig because we were not a managed partner. This totally makes sense. I’d be really upset if I was a partner and they were giving work to non partners.
As you know before when I became an MCSD in 1996, I saw 0% advantages. I can’t recall a time someone said “Oh your an MCSD, you must be good!” or “I am going to give the work because your certified”.
In fact it was becoming a bit of joke. Some of the worst developers I’ve ever known had their MCSD. That is why I let my certification expire back in 2001. It had become a negative thing to say that you were certified. Don’t get me wrong, there are plenty of people with MCSDs that are great developers. But there are plenty more that are not!
